A weltwärts year in Lesotho

Volunteering with Children of Lesotho – at Kingsgate Primary School in Mafeteng or with the Malealea Development Trust in the mountains.

Your commitment

We are delighted that you are interested in volunteering in Lesotho. We work together with “weltwärts”, the German government’s volunteer programme. On this page you will find all the information about the process and conditions.

If you have any questions, please get in touch – someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible with a detailed answer.

What is weltwärts?

Volunteer abroad with weltwärts and gain new perspectives through exchange with the world. weltwärts offers you:

  • financial support
  • fair and transparent conditions for everyone
  • professional guidance
  • membership of the weltwärts network
  • high quality and safety standards
  • certified organisations

What to expect

During your time abroad you support a local project and become part of a team working for a social, non-profit cause. Thanks to established routines and good guidance, you quickly learn new tasks.

You find your way in an unfamiliar environment, meet new people and learn their language, and discover a lot about how they work, what they believe and how they see the world. After a while you are an integral part of the project, people ask for your opinion and you can start small projects of your own.

Perhaps inspired by the weltwärts seminars, you start to see the world – and your own behaviour – through different eyes. You meet people who see you differently from how you see yourself – and the climate and landscapes will surely amaze you.

You are never on your own: both in Lesotho and in Germany you always have contact persons who are easy to reach, and you quickly get in touch with former volunteers.
