News from Lesotho – our 2026 appeal for donations

Cheerful, open, curious – that is how the children of Kingsgate Primary School in Mafeteng greet us every time. They reach out their hands, beam at us and remind us what we are here for as an association. This letter gives you an update on our work – and warmly asks for your support.

Kingsgate Primary School in Mafeteng

The school, with seven grades and around 1,000 pupils, remains at the heart of our work. Children of Lesotho (CoL) helps families in need with school fees and school uniforms and supports individuals such as Mampho – a highly gifted pupil with a heart condition who has the prospect of a government university scholarship – with her medical care. Three new classrooms are to be built next year: the German Embassy is expected to fund the construction, and CoL the furnishings.

Malealea Development Trust

In the mountain village of Malealea, CoL supports the Malealea Development Trust (MDT) with annual funding. The trust looks after orphans, runs teaching gardens and a teaching farm, and provides medical care in the region.

Three young people – three paths

As examples, we report on three young people whose paths CoL is accompanying:

Baholo grew up in a foster family and had dropped out of school. Through CoL he was given the chance to attend a vocational college in Bethel. Today he has completed his training as a carpenter and is setting up his own workshop. CoL will support him for two more years.

Tsoeunyane attends an art school in Morija, sells his own paintings and has been offered a position as an instructor in the school’s art society. An insecure boy has become a person who has found his goal.

Paballo had to fend for himself from the age of twelve. With CoL’s support he has finished school in Mafeteng and now wants to study health sciences – with the aim of going on to study medicine.

Our volunteers 2025/26

Leon and Radik are this year’s volunteers – both highly motivated and multi-talented. Leon has worked in the teaching garden and set up a bee project, which he would like to continue supporting after his return to Germany. Radik supports the MDT and the bee project as a computer specialist. Applications for 2026/27 have already been received.

How you can help

After all these projects, the association’s funds have been noticeably depleted. If you would like to support our work, we would be very grateful for your donation:

Find out here how you can support us.

Donation receipts are issued at the end of the year. For amounts up to €300, the bank transfer receipt is sufficient for German tax purposes.

Thank you very much – on behalf of the children and young people in Lesotho.

Dr Walburga Rehmann-Linden & Dr Peter Krimmel
